About the Webcam Network

Welcome to the Diana the Valkyrie Broadcasting System. It's radically different from other webcam systems - the most obvious dfference, is it's a whole lot cheaper. You can use it for $0.10 per minute, ten US cents a minute. If you're used to chatlines and webcams that cost $3.99 and up, you're probably wondering why this one is so cheap.

The answer is technology. We're harnessing the power of computers and the internet to bring down the cost of doing this stuff. We aren't lowering quality, we're using the fact that computers will work for 24 hours per day without needing wages, without going on strike, without getting bored with their jobs. It's Valkyrie Magic.

The video window is 320 by 240, and the frame rate is about 3 or 4 frames per second, so that motion isn't smooth, but you can see the movement. How smooth it is, partly depends on your connection. Want to see what it looks like? Here's a demonstration page. Username guest, password guest. It's just a bit of fun, a windmill that you can stop and start, and turn from side to side. But you can use it to see the quality of the video that this system gives. You can also see a clock ticking, with a sweep second hand. The clock is on British time (it's a British windmill) that's EST+5.

Getting started

You've seen the Windmill demo (username guest, password guest), now you want the real thing. OK, here we go.

  1. First, check that your computer meets the requirements. Pretty much any computer will, but you might need to enable java - we'll show you how
  2. The cost is 10c/minute for passive use, 25c/minute for active participation, 5c/minute to replay old chat sessions. Read about the details of the costs.
  3. Signup for the DtV Broadcasting System, and buy some tokens, at the signup desk
  4. If you need more tokens, you can pick them up at the token counter, which can also just tell you how many you have left.
