Hobbies / Interests:
Aside from bodybuilding.... I absolutely love to cook and I really
enjoy any form of outdoor sports.
School Background (degrees, schools, etc etc):
I'm currently finishing a degree with a double major in Microbiology/Biochemistry.
How long have you been lifting? What got you started?I have been
training off and on for several years but, I have been training
seriously for three years.
What are your future
goals in athletics and weight lifting? I'm currently preparing
for the 2004 Canadian National Bodybuilding Championships... I'm
hoping to get my IFBB Pro Card someday!
What empowers/motivates
you as an athlete?
I am both empowered and motivated by women who compete in bodybuilding..
it takes serious determination and dedication to succeed.
How do you feel about
the increasing trend of more and more women lifting weights and
changing traditionally male domains by breaking past stereotypes?
I like the fact that more and more women are choosing to lift
weights. Training is healthy for you...it promotes a positive
self image.
How do people react
to you lifting weights and/or being muscular? I find that most
people react very positively to my muscular body,. Of course,
every now and then, someone who is uneducated in the realm of
bodybuilding produces an incredibly snide remark....
In general, the positive reactions are very flattering.... I have
learned that most people look/stare out of curiousity/jealousy....
I simply respond with a smile...
Were you always strong,
even as a child? Do strength and fitness come natural to you or
is it mostly hard work? I was born an athlete :) I have competed
in many different sports throughout the years but nothing compares
to bodybuilding. Bodybuilding is challenging both mentally and
physically.
Has lifting had a positive impact on your life and how? Living
a bodybuilding lifestyle has had a very positive impact on my
life. I've learned to appreciate both my pre-contest body and
my off-season body... I'm happy when I'm big because I'm strong
and I'm happy when I'm lean because I can see the results of another
season worth of training...I have also learned a lot about nutrition.
