School Background: "I graduated high school with honours; graduated college with high honours; NCCP Certified National Level Gymnastics Coach; ISSA Certified Personal Fitness Trainer; Certified Nutritional Product Advisor."
Athletic background: "Provincial level gymnast, national level trampolinist; 7 overall titles out of 12 bodybuilding competitions and placing top 3 in the others; have won best poser, most muscular and most symmetrical awards."
Bodybuilding Background: " I have been lifting for 7 years. I started lifting weights after a knee injury requiring surgery for rehab. I then became active again in weight lifting looking for something to stay in shape over the winter months so I could windsurf in the summer. I decided to continue lifting after the winter months because I enjoyed it. I was talked into doing a bodybuilding show by the promoter of the show and I have been competing ever since."
Goals: " I'm striving to make the team for the World Amateur Bodybuilding Championships. I would also possibly like to compete in a power lifting competition in the future."
On her motivation as an athlete: "I want to be the best I possibly can be in anything that I do. I set myself realistic goals and dreams and work towards achieving them until I get them. I also love the challenge of lifting as heavy as I can."
On people's reactions to her lifting weights: "As a personal trainer and a bodybuilder, people react in a positive way to my lifting weights and being muscular. The men tend to be impressed with my strength and the women want to build more muscle like myself."
Were you always strong, even as a child? "Yes, I believe that I was strong as a child. I grew up on a farm and helped out with the chores. I also have an older brother to contend with when I was growing up."
On the impact lifting has had on her life: "I have met many people that have had a positive impact on me. It has also given me a chance to get what I lost in gymnastics as an athlete after a knee injury. Now, as a personal trainer I can give back what I am getting out of lifting weights and help others to achieve their goals."
On doing her part to win the battle of the sexes: "I have had competitons with a couple of males. I had a dip contest and a push up contest with a male and I won. Since I have been a personal trainer, I tend not to have contests with males because my goal is to make them feel good about themselves and their accomplishments, not to hurt their egos. If they ask what I can lift in a particular exercise, I tell them. In most cases, I am able to do more then them. They are impressed with the weights I lift and it pushes my male clients to work harder and catch up to me. I am always testing my strength in the gym with my male training partner who is bigger and stronger then me. "
