Jessica Forsman, 2002 NPC Teen National Champ
Email: LttlWeightLftr@aol.com
Born: September 21, 1982
From: Fargo, North Dakota
Height: 5'2 & 1/2''
Weight: 133 lbs contest; 150-158 offseason
Max Lifts: "I used to keep track and decided it didn't matter how strong I was, it mattered how developed my muscles were and how symmetrical I was but I did bench 165 2 years ago and I did 315 on the Smith Maching for squats a few months ago."
Hobbies/Interests: "Bodybuilding, cooking, I love the outdoors (the lakes, hunting w/dad, camping, etc) I also enjoy being around children and helping people."
Athletic achievements: "I got into playing volleyball when I was 8 years old and stuck with it. I played for regular school plus I played 2 years of Junior Olympic volleyball. My junior year of high school I was cut and started hitting the weights harder."
Future goals: "I want to continue NATURAL bodybuilding and just work as hard as I can and see where it gets me. I want to motivate others to lead a healthy lifestyle and prove that there are no limits. You can do whatever you set your mind to!"
On what inspires her: "My own weight problem mainly. I was a heavy 175 pounds at the ages of 13 and 14; I made up my own work out and ate healthier and lost weight. I joined a gym a year after that and after basic weight training in highschool, I decided to switch to a more hardcore gym. The 2 and 1/2 years since I've been at the Sports Center, I have not skipped more then 4 days of working out. I decided that if I wanted to keep my weight down, it was only me who could control it and no one else.
Even though I bodybuild, I really look up to Kelly Ryan and Jenny Worth; they are beautiful athletes and even though they are fitness I still love following them and their achievements. For female bodybuilders, I really like Melissa Coates and Tania Villalobos. I also think one of the biggest inspiration are many of the master bodybuilders that are in their 50's and still have so much youth to them and still leading healthy lives."
How long have you been lifting? "I started out with the nautilus machines when I was 14 and by the time I was 17, I was playing with the free weights mainly and training a lot harder."
How does it feel to be strong?: "I'm more proud of being strong mentally then physically. Anyone can go and shove stuff around but it takes a strong mind to really achieve dreams and goals."
On how she feels about females lifting weights and breaking stereotypes: "IT'S ABOUT DAMN TIME! I think it's awesome. There are no limits for women/men. Working out is one of the biggest ego boosters there is so why should men be the only ones to feel it? Women have every right as well. I respect those who feel muscular girls are ugly because personally I think many of the pros are not the greatest looking so when I get looked down upon for my physical appearance, I suck it up and understand where they are coming from. Everyone does their own thing that makes them happy and whether aperson disagrees/agree's with it, as long as it makes the person happy and healthy, then DO IT AND DON'T LET ANYONE TELL YOU DIFFERENT!"
On people's reactions to her muscular physique: "You don't know how many times I used to be called "Chyna" referring to WWF's Chyna. I was told many a ,even up to just a few months ago, that it's ugly and gross. Even family saying it. I guess I just had the attitude that "who cares, I'm the one working out and watching all of you basically sit on your butts so just keep talking" I never really let it get to me. Sometimes it hurt and brought tears to my eyes but now look at where it got me. I won the 2002 NPC Teen National Female Bodybuilding Championship."
Were you always strong even as a kid: "Hahaha, yes, I was the girl who wasn't afraid to take on boys and my favorite thing to do was probably wrestle when I was around the ages of 10-13.
On what lifting means to her: "I am very happy I started as young as I did and built a good base. I think one of the biggest comments I get from older female bodybuilders is 'I wish I would've started earlier then I did, you are lucky you started so young.' Lifting is a great stress relief and bodybuilding takes a lot of discipline which carries over into many other area's of my life."
On winning the battle of the sexes: "I get asked all the time to arm wrestle (I suck at it by the way, haha) and I used to always take on the challenge and go through the pain. Now within the last year I've realized that I don't have to prove myself and hurt my wrists because that'll only hurt my future with lifting if I start screwing up my arms now. The only type of guys I like to take on are the "pansies" that think they have it all and start talking crap about me because they are intimidated. Then you always have those few people that start telling me to go take him on and prove him wrong and it's often tempting and I normally don't, but push my buttons long enough and you dang right I will go show him I can win. :o)"
