Hometown: "I'm a marine brat so I don't really claim any one place as "home." I've lived in 6 states total. I've lived in eastern North Carolina for the last 6 years."

Job/School: "Curently, I am finishing my sophomore year at East Carolina University. I am majoring in Exercise Physiology. I work at the ECU Student Recreational Center as a personal trainer and a fitness trainer."

Hobbies / Interests: "Last year I ran track for ECU. The 100 m high hurdles was my main event, but when it began to more of a job than a sport I quit and joined the rugby team. I've never quit anything in my life, but haven't regretted it for a day. I am so much happier now that I play Rugby for ECU. About once a week I like to go to the club and dance with my girlfriends, but in my spare time I love to just relax and watch movies. I live about 20 minutes from the beach so during the summer that's where I spend most of my time."

Favorite Music: "I don't have one particular music I claim as my favorite, but I do have favorite kinds of music for different things. For instance, when I'm doing cardio I love listening to progressice techno, and when I'm lifting I prefer rock (like limp bizkit, linkin park, disturbed, etc...). I like everything from country to hip hop."

Athletic/Lifting Background: "My very first experience with a sport of any kind was in middle school. I wanted to play football. My dad said "ok", my mom said, "over my dead body!" So I decided to cheer for the football team since I couldn't play with them. I ended up being a cheerleader for 6 years.

"I have played 6 sports total: Cheerleading 6 yrs, Softball 2yrs, Basketball 1 yr, Track 3 yrs, Swimming, 1 yr, and Rugby 1 yr and still playing. I've won numerous awards, but some of the most noteworthy are first place in an individual stunting competition for cheerleading that my builiding group and I won after deciding to participate in the competition only the night before the competition. We threw together a routine and practiced it about 3 times, then went to the competition the next day and walked away champs, I was awarded All Conference cheerleader my senior year, and another note worthy award would be the first place trophy I won at a bench press competition at my hometown gym. I was a junior in high school at the time.

"I started cheering when I was about 10, but didn't start lifting till I was 15. I took weight training in high school because I thought it would be an easy A; little did I know how much of a passion I would develope for it!"

Has lifting had a positive impact on your life and how?: "YES! I have always been a very small girl; tall and lanky, and have had self esteem issues because of it. I have always felt very vulnerable, weak, and powerless and lifting gives me the power to make myself stronger and more sure of myself. It has given me the self esteem and mental state that I can do anything if I just put my mind (and sometimes my muscles) to it!"

What empowers/motivates you as an athlete?: "The feeling of accomplishment when I've worked hard and completed a challenging task. "

What's your strongest muscle group, what do you consider your weakest?: "My strongest muscle group is definitly my traps and back!!! I don't really have a weakest muscle group, but I do have a weak lift: that would be bench. I can't ever seem to improve that one."

How do people, men in particular, react to you lifting weights and/or being muscular?: "Guys often stare. Some make comments. I'm not very big, just very cut for my size and strong compared to my bodyweight. A lot of guys feel intimidated by a small girl who can lift as much as I do.

"Guys are constantly wanting to compete with me for something. A lot of them know I used to run track so they usually want to race me. I made a bet with one guy that I would get a six pack before him. Needless to say he's buying my dinner after the competition I have coming up!"

What are your future goals in athletics and weight lifting? "I recently did one figure competiton and have one more coming up. I would like to put on some size and continue competing in figure and eventually fitness. I will probably continue playing rugby for fun unless it interferes with lifting, then I will probably stop so that I can focus more on building my body."
