My pic can be seen in the september 2002 issue of muscle&fitness for my ohio win.
Lifting Background:
I have been lifting for 12 years/competing for 2 years. I always liked staying in shape. There were alot of people who said I should compete.
Future Goals: "I would first love to finally turn PRO. It has been a long, but very satisfying journey thus far. I have competed in 5 national shows in 2 years and placed no lower than 3rd place in any of them. Once I gain professional status, I just hope to be true to myself and find my nitch in the pro-circuit."
On her motivation to lift: I will be a sponsor at the 2002 npc cleveland and I will be competing as a middleweight at the 2002 Ohio bodybuilding championships in Columbus, Ohio on Sept 14th. I plan on competing nationally in '03. I want to earn my ifbb pro card.
What empowers/motivates you as an athlete?: "Being strong! I love winning."
How do you feel about the increasing trend of more and more women lifting weights and changing traditionally male domains by breaking past stereotypes?:
The arnold classic mens winner got 100k and a hum-v the womens winner got a measley 17k. I understand that this is a male dominated sport so I want to help change that. I won't believe that the womens winner didnt work just as hard as the mens.
On people's reactions to her lifting weights:
"How do people react to you lifting weights and/or being muscular?: it can be intimidating to some men but i wouldnt want those weakminded wimps anyhow! others including women think it is fantastic. i went to cedar point a couple of months ago and had a lot of people who wanted to take my picture. I have signed autographs for my muscle & fitness pic. it has been fantastic so far. it also gives me an opportunity to help other people who want to improve their lives through fitness. they ask me for advice and guidance.
Were you always strong, even as a child? i was always athletic, gymnastics track etc.. could run faster than the boys all the way till high school."
Do strength and fitness come natural to you or is it mostly hard work?:
I make quick gains in strength and size much to the dismay of my training partner. I never work my calves. Dont get me wrong, I have to lift a lot of weight but I respond well to it. I will be a middle weight at my next show: I hope to come in around 125."
On the impact lifting has had on her life:
" I have friends whos hobbies include smoking and going to the bars. I like to have fun but i also like to feel good. I prefer to be outside whether it is on my motorcycle or on the lake in a boat. I have recently started rollerblading again. I forgot how much fun it can be(until you fall that is) it beats trudging away on the eliptical thats for sure."
On doing her part to win the battle of the sexes: "I recently took a physical agility test. One of the tests was a set of pullups (max being 20). I was the only female competing among 15 males. I hopped up there and did my 20 no problem. There were some guys that could'nt do even 3-5. You could say I pissed some people off that day. WOMEN POWER!!!!
